VPN connection and "Identifying network"
We have Windows 7 and Vista laptops, connecting to ISA Server 2006 using a CMAK created VPN connection. Most of the time it works fine, however from time to time it appears to get stuck connecting to the remote network. Typically you can see it is at the point of "Identifying remote network" and never completes the process. If you disconnect and reconnect it will usually connect properly.Unless a user is trained, they would never see this and just thing the VPN connection is broken. Also, asking users to connect and reconnect is just sloppy. Is there something that I need to configure that would ensure a connection every time or that would help Windows "Identify" the network?

Hi, Firstly, may I know the following: 1. The topology of your network. 2. Do all the Windows 7 and Windows Vista computers encounter this issue? 3. The type of the VPN connection. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Please also boot the computer to Clean Boot environment and check how it works: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 2. Run the following command in an elevated command prompt to disable Windows Firewall and check the issue: Netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off Note: you can turn back on with the command “Netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state on”. If the issue persists, please also capture a screenshot for our further research: Capture a screenshot ============== 1) Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard. 2) Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter. 3) In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save". 4) The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot". 5) Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click “Desktop” on the left pane and then click "Save". For your convenience, I have created a workspace for you. You can upload the screenshot via the following link. 1. We have two sites, connected with a VPN tunnel using two ISA 2006 servers. At the primary site where clients connect, we have two VLANs, one with the ISA Server and one with desktops.192.168.0.x = ISA / Servers192.168.1.x = Desktops2. Using either a CMAK created client or a VPN connection created with Group Policy Preferences, all computers - Vista or 7 - experience the issue at some point. Usually disconnecting or reconnections resolves the issue.3. Direct L2TP connection.I would love to do more troubleshooting on this issue, but right now, I have a couple of other projects to complete. Fortunately, the problem is intermittant, which is good for usability but bad for trouble shooting. Since I can't consistently recreate the problem, I can't say when it will occur or if I could recreate it in testing in a relatively short period of time.
